Gummerhof - Bozen Malojer

First mentioned in the archives as far back as 1480, the Gummerhof originally stood on its own to the north of the city of Bolzano, in the midst of a sea of vines. In 1880, Josef Trafojer acquired the premises and built a new winery and spirit distillery alongside.

Josef Trafojer Junior continued producing wine till 1925. At that point production ceased, and was not resumed until the late 1940s, under the management of Josef's son-in-law Rudolf Malojer. The entire plant was radically modernised, and the cellarage was upgraded to conform to modern specifications. The carefully tended oak vats were supplemented by large-capacity stainless steel containers, and state-of-the-art winemaking technology was installed. Before long, additional must was being bought in from independent growers, enabling the varietal range to be extended. The Malojer-Gummerhof winery is run today as a family business dedicated to the production of unfailingly top-quality wines on the basis of many years of practical experience combined with up-to-the-minute scientific knowledge of wine production.
